The Envy – New EP

by on Jan.21, 2011, under Music News, Music/Artist Review

Every so often a band comes along that you just know will be big and The Envy is one of those bands. I recently saw them in concert as an opening band for KISS and was blown away. I was so impressed that while I was watching I posted a review of their concert. The Envy performs as if they are the headlining band which is what they truly are. The band just started a new tour so check their site for details. Their three track EP is available on iTunes only in Canada and US currently but will be available for other countries soon. The album is amazingly well written, produced and performed. The band has been signed to Gene Simmons’ label, Simmonsrecords, and are working hard on their first full length album. The album is due out fall of 2011 but could be as early as summer. I guess until then we will have to hold on to this small piece of gold. The album is only $1.49 in iTunes and after you hear it you’ll understand why I can’t get enough of this band.

If you get the album please leave us a comment about what you thought.

The Jim Ivins Band – Self Titled EP

by on Dec.04, 2010, under Music/Artist Review

The Jim Ivins Band is an up and coming band from Virginia. I got my hands on a copy of their self titled album, The Jim Ivins Band and couldn’t stop listening. The band’s blend of acoustic guitar, rock and even a hint of country makes them a triple threat on the charts. The band’s performance and look makes you feel at home with their music. As a musician and a lover of music, the drumming on this album is amazing. Maybe it was the vocals or the playing but either way it was a pleasure listening to the whole album. I think this could be the break out album for a really great band. Check out the band’s website for concert details and if you’d like to pick up the album follow the iTunes link. You can also hear them live by checking their YouTube channel.

Soundgarden – Telephantasm

by on Oct.14, 2010, under Music/Artist Review

Soundgarden’s new album, Telephantasm is a stretch from their traditional sound. The first single Black Rain is true Soundgarden but the rest of the album doesn’t keep pace with this great track. The original lineup is back in place with some interesting adjustments. Chris Cornell is sharing lead vocals with Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd on some tracks. This is not an uncommon practice for the band but  this album is almost fifty fifty. As a big fan of Soundgarden it doesn’t feel like true Soundgarden without Cornell’s signature vocals. On the song Fopp the band uses a horn section which is very uncharacteristic. One of the saving aspects of the album is adding older songs such as Black Hole Sun and Outshined. The album is more of a greatest hits with new tracks tossed in to call it a reunion album. Telephantasm is a good album but isn’t the comeback Soundgarden album I think most hoped it would be. Click on either of these two links to pick up the album.
